I get 10 mpg with my Dauntless and 6 mpg with the 304 V8.

Seems to me to be awful low. Anyone have similar results?

:? I get 10 mpg too, but that's with a 460 in my F250. I'd expect much better from both of yours, unless the mountains really make that much difference? Never experienced that mountain driving so don't know.

I dunno about the 225 but my old 74 Cherokee with a 360 and th400 got 10+ mpg regularly and even managed 13 mpg on a long trip where I really restrained myself on the throttle. In a little cj both of your engines could do better.
Maybe look into a vacuum/economy guage. High intake vacuum = good economy. Gearing is less important than most folks think. It's how you run 'em, keep it lean on fuel and give it all the ignition advance it can handle. ;)
Ps. Good to see another Californian on the site!
Pps. Another thought, what's your elevation? Where the rigs are operated. Could be they are set up for low elevation operation and will definitely be too fat and retarded for high elevations. Find a good local tuner.

Just filled up with gas today. Got 11.88 mpg. That's with 100% arround town driving and is about average for the old :v6: with it's gearing. :) Jim

I get 10-11mpg in my 360 pushing 34" TSLs with 4" of lift.
16mpg with my F pushing 31"ers
Tires and lift makes a difference. I think I got at least 12 on my 360 before the lift with 31"ers.

16 highway MPG on '71, 11.1 highway MPG on K-3500 (tailgate removed). Don't ask about K-3500 with 11.5' camper on and Jeep in tow!!!

Yep, that's kinda what I meant about the gearing. Tall tires, tall gears will lower rpm but make your engine work harder, so your throttle's open further, vacuum is lower, efficiency's lower.
Okay, sorry, blah blah blah, I know...
Just trying to get that weak boggety 4Runner out of memory. Cute truck, just had no go.

I get about 10 per also. I even read Chilton's tips for fuel economy. Didn't help.

My V6 with 4:88 is my daily driver and I never get less than 15 mpg, usually around 17 - 18. It also has OD, which I leave engaged 90% of the time. Except for the OD and 31" tires, it's a very stock setup (original carb, exhaust, ignition, etc.)

I get about 16 mpg on my CJ3B with F4, OD and 5:38 gearing. Also very stock except the OD and 31" tires.

10 mpg for either engine seems too low to me.

I get about 18 on the highway with 3.73 gears and 31" tires. Dual exhaust is the only modification done to the engine.

Just got my 70 with 225 V6 going.. Had a one gallon tank rigged up just to run it and that turned into putting seat in... and so on... One gallon = bout 3 rounds around the block. (not Far) I guess I had better get ta tweeking the ole carb etc. etc.

I can squeeze 12 out of my CJ but I have a Chevy 283 and 4.11s. Most of my driving is my 70 mile commute to work everyday. It helps if I can keep my foot out of the secondaries on the 4 bbl...but, then again, that's why they're there :)

I'm getting well under 10 mpg. But, that's 95% off road with aired down 33's and 4.88s and the carb running waaaaaaaay too rich.

Just curious on these figures...how many of you are taking into account the oversized tires most of us are using??

Example. My jeep can cruise along at an "indicated" 63 mph on the highway. Buick V-6 is farting along around 2300-2700 rpm in overdrive. My 5:38s are screaming but it can do it. 33" BFG Mud terrains.

However, the actual speed is right about 70mph according to those with modern cars following me. According to my odometer, I get about 10-12 mpg...but I haven't actually figured out the real milage based on the error. I do know that I go about 8 or 9/10s on the odometer for every actual mile. 10% error or there abouts. Just been too lazy to get a true reading.

I am getting about 12mpg after removing the old oil bath air cleaner on my 225 V6. I replaced it with a dry element filter. Before I was at 10mpg. I am up at 4500 feet above sea level. I bought it a few months ago from the Bay area and have done some tuning on the carb but haven't touched the timing yet. I run 33's and 5.38's with a T-98 and the Warn overdrive. I expected at least 15mpg but perhaps I was overestimating. I will look into the timing tonight.
