now that i can get a rebuilt 4.3 cheaper than a 231 i need to know exactly what i need to do for the 4.3 swap, i have looked on novaks site but i am still not sure on all of the swap details. anything and everything you guys know will be appreciated .i had the 225 in but it was no good, i still have the bell housing for it and dont want to spend a lot to adapt it
Not sure about the bell houseing as I don't remember if you can just drill some new holes or not. You definitly would need new motor mounts. Also make sure you get a 4.3L not like I did a funky 3.8 semi-evenfire motor.

I put the 4.3 in mine.
You need a Chevy bellhousing, motor mounts, all accessory brackets and accessories for a chevy, which can easily be found in a junk yard. Ignition (non computer HEI) which was a challenge for me to find. Headers, since there are no exhaust manifolds that will fit if you are running a Saginaw setup. I was able to modify an exhaust manifold to fit mine, but it required cutting the flange and rewelding it (cast iron). I don't know about trans interchangability for fitting the chevy bellhousing though. I put the SM 465 in mine so it was not an issue anyway.
Electric fuel pump, since the 4.3 only came with a mechaincal fuel pump for the first 2 yrs I think (84 and 85)?
I'm sure I have left some stuff out.

You'll also have to get a stick shift flywheel, since the 225 wheel won't work on the 4.3. Might have to redo your clutch linkage too. I went with hanging pedals and a hydro clutch.

I didn't do this swap, so have no idea if these are the stock '90 4.3 manifolds or not. It's tight, but I see no evidence of modifying the manifold to accomodate the steering:

A friend of mine put a 4.3 in a Flattie with stock manifolds. He had the driver's side resurfaced to angle the manifold in towards the block some to clear the Saginaw steering shaft. Nickmil.

My manifold is a different style. It is the kind that goes up higher on the valve cover. I think I remember trying the type you have Mike, and for some reason, with my particular sag swap it would not fit.

Deputy Dave, I need a 225 bell housing, flywheel & starter. Please PM or email me if you decide to part with it.
Thanks
