A Spring Green Oklahoma Special

69 CJ-5

This is the Jeep that I first saw in August of 1998 in a Western Oklahoma town not far from where I live. I met the owner that day and he informed me that he wanted to sell but had reservations due to the fact that his grandfather, who had purchased it new in California, had just given it to him and was still asking "how is the Jeep doing...!"

Well, it was a four year wait, until I was given the green light to buy the Jeep and bring it home. This Jeep still had it's original white top (White Manufacturing), tires, upholstery and spark plugs in the block. The odometer read 13,480 miles. The color is Spring Green, code 433. The mileage is documented with Oklahoma State Inspection receipts that log the odometer readings. Some years the Jeep was not driven 40 miles. I cleaned the oxidized paint with McGuire's Cleaner Wax and the result looks like new paint. I keep the Kayline top conditioned with 303 Aerospace Protectant and it still looks brand new. Since the upholstry was dry rotted, I replaced in black to match the top and spare tire cover.

SnapsThis photos shows the snap arrangement. I ordered the top without snaps installed so I could match up with the original snap studs in the tub. I did not want to drill new holes for snaps because this Jeep has not had any additional holes drilled into it, this photo also shows the original steps.

DashThis view of the dash and steering wheels shows the most important part of an original Jeep...no radio hole! Everything works with the expection of the temperature guage.

HEIWhen I first got the Jeep, it barely ran due to the fact that the original Prestolite distributor was next to shot. I took the advice of the ECJ5 site and had the HEI distributor installed. This made a world of difference, as the Jeep now runs like a top! To date, I have replaced the fuel pump, brake master cylinder, water pump and had a radiator leak repaired. That is about all I have had to do this Jeep to get it into the shape you see. It remains garage kept and I drive it almost every rainless day.
